What inspired you to become a DJ?

Music, my love for music is what led me to become a DJ. I started very young, listening to the radio and the LPs my parents had. At 16, I worked in a record store, at 18, I was DJing in bars at the Port and Calle de La Virgen in Ibiza, and at 20, I was playing at Pacha.

How would you describe your musical style?

I am a person with very eclectic tastes; my musical style is quality. I can play anything from 1930s jazz to tomorrow’s deep house. For more than twenty years, I was a DJ at Pacha’s Flower Power, so the 60s and 70s are also part of my style. The music I play depends on the moment and the place.

What attracted you to Hotel Garbi, and what is the experience like DJing there?

I was drawn by the opportunity to work again with a local entrepreneur and to be in a place where my work would be valued for its quality, not for ‘fashion’ reasons. The experience is excellent, it couldn’t be better.

How do you prepare your sets for Hotel Garbi?

My job at Hotel Garbi isn’t just my live sessions in the Chill area; my main job is to prepare and program the music that plays throughout the day. I am what is now called a ‘curator’.

How do you see the evolution of electronic music in Ibiza in recent years?

I don’t see it as bad; there has always been, is, and will be good music. You just need to know how to find it, and this is one of the main jobs of a good DJ.

What has been your most memorable moment as a DJ in Ibiza?

The day I DJed at my own wedding. It was one of the conditions for us to have a party—I had to DJ, or there would be no celebration.

What advice would you give to DJs just starting their careers?

Love music—all kinds of music. Don’t box yourself into any one style, and put passion into your work.

What differences do you find between playing in a club and at a hotel like Garbi?

As I said earlier, the music I play depends on the place and the moment.

Can you share a fun or interesting anecdote from your nights at Hotel Garbi?

It’s still early to have many anecdotes to share, but the best one so far is the warm welcome I’ve received from my colleagues.

How do you maintain your creativity and energy throughout the season?

By taking great care of myself, both physically and mentally. This year marks 42 years since I started making a living with music. It’s a job that can lead you to lose control, but to survive so many years, you need to take good care of yourself.
